Artistic Authority

What is "Authority"?
The dictionary has this as one of it’s definitions:
Confidence derived from experience or practice; firm self-assurance: played the sonata with authority
When a person speaking seems to know what they’re talking about, we tend to listen and are possibly swayed by their arguments because they have a certain sense of ‘authority’ about their statements. They make sense. And they make common sense. That type of authority is not assigned by someone – it is earned on the basis of merit. These people become leaders to some degree based on the credibility they build by offering that common sense, logic, and sense of truth and insight in their observations.
Similarly, when you listen to the music produced by various artists, there is sometimes that extra sense of each note being just the perfect note at the perfect time.
That is how I can judge a really good artist from one who is not yet as skilled in their craft, regardless of the genre of music. If they know how to put a song together in such a way that each note seems to always be the right note at the right moment. Then it has that sense of authority. It has power. Power to persuade others. Power to win over the hearts and minds of those who hear the message.
Eric’s music has that sense of authority. When I listen to his material, there is no doubt in my mind that each note, as it happens, is just the right note for that passing moment. Each chord progression is correct. It begins, runs, and resolves correctly. If there is no counter-melody, it is because none was needed, and had it been added, it would have diminished the effect of the piece. In fact, any change whatsoever would only serve to diminish the piece. That is authority.
When writing music, I wonder if Eric has to think much about it, or if it just comes naturally. I know that when I write music, I start with a blank page, and I have to begin somewhere, so I begin with a nugget of an idea and then build on that. As I build, I am always trying to think of what the next most logical move is. I look for not just the possible next chord or next note, but the *perfect* next note or chord.
Then the concept expands into the realm of production. When to add a voice, when not to. When to cut the entire band except one single guitar to do one run of notes - then crash the rest of the band right back in again. When to make it heavy, when should it be light. Is there a logical flow of ideas within the lyrics? Or is it one of those psychedelic non-sequitur ramblings of a drugged-out stoner typical of the late 60's/early 70's?
Does the sound of the music and melody match the topic of the lyrics? Do they combine to create and overall mood or emotional effect? Or are they fighting each other? How does it begin? With a single instrument, and then slowly add the others to build a band sound? Or do all the others suddenly come in with a colossal impact?
How many instruments? What to double, and when? What effects to apply?
There are so many elements to it, and any one of them being off or wrong destroys the credibility and the authority of the piece.
Then there is the whole issue of whether the piece is the brainchild of a single artist or a group of artists, each of which has their own vision, and each of which can pull the project in their direction. Sometimes, a mix of visions brings a stronger, blended vision of where it should go - if the 'chemistry' is compatible between artists. And yet many times, it doesn't work, and the ideas of one merely diminish the effects of the ideas from others.
Then there is also the concept of asking for help from people outside the creative process. People who are not themselves musicians.
There is a trade off when the artist asks for help from another.
Normally, when we, 'the audience', pick up a book and read it, or read a poem, or listen to a song, experience a painting, or a sculpture, etc., we usually have a sense of faith in the artist that what was intended to be there is there. We trust in their authority.
Just like when we get off the elevator on the 10th floor of an office building, we have unconsciously made an underlying assumption that the engineers and architects knew what they were doing when they designed the tensile strength and configuration of the steel girders for the building and that the floor is not going to collapse when you step onto it. We make these assumptions of simple faith everyday. We make many similar assumptions about the world around us on a daily basis.

We make similar assumptions of faith with art as well.
We may like the piece, or not like the piece, but, unless we are a professional critic, most of us simply assume that it is what it is. It is complete. And what the artist intended.
We don't take it upon ourselves to suggest that the chords to "Stairway to Heaven" are wrong.
We don't think the melody to 'Silent Night" needs work. Or that "The Last Supper" should have had one more disciple at the table.
As such, we imbue these pieces with a certain sense of what I will call, 'Artistic Authority'.
They speak with an authority of what they should be. Of how they should exist in the world.
When we buy a new CD and listen to it, we usually accept it as easily as we accept the classics in that we assume that the songs are complete and correct, and as the muse instructed the artist to create.
So when an artist asks for help, it changes the situation - at least for that person, doesn't it?
For THAT person, they now have a say in what the chord progression is.
Cliffs of Dover might have less impact on you if you had a deal of say in the exact melody. Perhaps it would lose it's authority - it's right to exist as it is now. Things are changed for the person that gets to suggest the exact tint for the leaves on those trees, the exact wording of this Haiku.
When they get to determine the plot twist in the movie at that crucial point.
No one doubts the fact that the Empire was allowed to blow up the planet Alderan in Star Wars. That film has the authority to simply state that that is what happened, and we take it at face value and trust that it makes sense in the grand design of events that are about to transpire.
But if you are given say over things, all that evaporates. If you determine that Princess Leia convinced Governor Tarkan and Darth Vader to let them live, then suddenly everything is up for grabs. For you, at least, the story has lost it's artistic authority, and has simply become a workpiece that you toiled over. To a degree, the magic is lost. Your ability to change the story makes the story meaningless in a sense.
It takes away from the sense of 'authority' of the piece. The piece of art is now no longer a fixed piece of the panorama of the universe around that person. Once it is open to change by that person it becomes something different. Something less, I should say.
It has lost it's 'authority', but on the other hand, that person has gained some power. They can change something they couldn't change before. So the authority of the work is diminished, but the authority of the person is enhanced. And that is the tradeoff.
So it becomes a bit of a quandary for the artist to ask for help, doesn't it?
The tradeoff for the artist there is that they must de-mystify the work for that person in exchange for help that may enhance the mystery of the piece for others. So the tradeoff is expanded.
In asking for help, you lose a fan, but gain an artistic aide. If you never ask for help or advice or feedback, you maintain the mystery for all others, but your impact is limited to only your own abilities, and senses. You are working in a vacuum. If your ego allows you to take criticism, advice or direction at all, you must decide whose experience you wish to ruin in exchange for their advice and input. An interesting choice.
As with all decisions, the more informed the better.
Another aspect to this is the concept of 'quality' in art. Art is very subjective. Taste is always personal and therefore indefensible. However not all 'art' is the highest of quality. People start at a low level of skill and then evolve to higher levels of skill as they learn new things. So their art improves. In my own case, my later songs are better than my earlier ones, because I know what I'm doing a little more now than I did when I started writing and recording 27 years ago. Each album is better than the ones before it. To some degree, even each song is usually a little better than the last.
So add this element into the mix and now we have a case where Artistic Authority is at risk if the quality is not high enough to provide a compelling suspension of disbelief for the audience.
In most cases, an artist is trying to convey a message to the audience. A story, a lesson, a feeling, a mood, a whatever. To do this, they must create an environment and a set of triggers to catch the audience's attention and engage their emotions. They must set a mood. They must touch on archetypes and symbols, similar experiences, and familiar points of the world that will trigger the emotional context that they are trying to build for the audience.
If their mastery of their art is insufficient to the task, then they will fail. The audience will experience nothing the artist has intended. They will simply get caught up in the form of the portrayal and lose the content.
The form, if rendered correctly, should disappear in the mind, as the content of the underlying message is revealed. To me, that is 'quality' in art. Just as a very skilled actor makes you forget the actor and believe the character to the point that their predicament seems real and engages your emotions. That is where the art is. That is quality performance, and artistic authority.
At least that's my feeling on it.

The Thief

This is a true story as told to me by my father.
A few years ago, he visited his club and met up with an old friend from his youth named Roy. They sat down over lunch and had a nice long chat catching up after so many years. My father shared his adventures through life, and Roy shared his. And in Roy's life adventure was buried an interesting lesson or two.
It all started back in the years following the Great Depression of the 1930’s. In Toronto there is an area that is now quite an expensive enclave of Victorian homes that have been restored and are owned by wealthy people.
But back in the 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s it was a very poor area indeed. It is called Cabbagetown, because the people in those days used to grow cabbages in their tiny little postage-stamp-sized yards, in order to have food to eat. It was a rough neighborhood full of rough people going through a rough time.
My father grew up there in that time. They lived in different houses, changing almost every year. But always they remained in Cabbagetown. As the eldest child in a family of nine that could not afford to feed the lot of them on a printer’s salary, he was sent out to the streets to make his own way in the world when he was only 15 years old. He was almost entirely deaf, so it was no longer possible to go to school, and it was difficult for a deaf street kid to find work, as well. It was a tough time living on the streets for a couple of years. He made friends with a less than desirable crowd. Roy was one of those less than sterling companions. He had taken to sitting on the top of his garage at night and dropping a brick onto the heads of drunks that wandered by, so he could take whatever money they had left, drag their body around the corner into the alley, and then climb back up and sit and wait for the next drunk to come along.
Finally one day, Roy had the idea to break into one of the huge mansions of Rosedale and steal their valuables. These are huge mansions and many were the homes of "old money’ families from England, that had come over to Canada 150 years ago to settle there. They were the original aristocracy and wealthy landowners. They were the people who had founded the country. These were their ancestral homes for generations and generations. He had heard someone say there was one family going on vacation and would be away for a few weeks, so he decided to make his strike then. This particular family did go on vacation as expected, and he broke into the house, searched around until he found the lady’s hidden jewelry, then left with that in a bag. He took it home and, for the moment, he stuffed the bag of jewelry into the hole in the brick wall over his garage, and covered it up.
He met with my father a few days later and told him what he had done, and also wondered what he should do with the jewelry to keep it safe while the police were looking for it. Roy was afraid to try to fence any of the pieces because they were so ‘hot’ still that no fence or pawnbroker would take them, or if they did, they certainly wouldn’t give him a decent price for them.
In the end, he decided to place the bag of jewelry in the safest place he could think of. A bank!
So he went to the bank and rented a safe-deposit box and stuffed the bag inside it, and locked it away. Now he knew no one would find it nor would any of his ‘friends’ be able to steal it from him.
With that nest-egg safely tucked away, he breathed a sigh of relief and turned his attention to making a living. It didn’t really matter what he did now, because he knew that he was already rich. He was really just biding his time. He already had the money stashed away in the bank just waiting for the right time to pull it out one piece at a time and cash it in and spend it.
He was set for life – he just had to wait a while. Perhaps a year or so, he thought. In the meantime, he would just pick up any kind of opportunities he could think of to make a living.
So he tried a variety of several different companies. He brought in Christmas trees from the country and sold them from a lot in downtown Toronto. That was profitable, but obviously seasonal. He tried painting houses, but that was a disaster. He tried to do home repairs, but that ended badly too. Even his landscaping business was a flop. In fact one homeowner was threatening to sue. But it just didn’t matter, he knew he couldn’t really fail. He just tried one business after another while he was waiting for the right moment to go and get that jewelry.
But then, several months and several businesses later, a funny thing happened. One of his businesses started to pick up. He had started it by picking up some scrap metal from a factory and loading onto his pickup truck and taking it to a metal smelter who bought it off him. Then he went to various other factories and did the same. He would pick up their old metal scrap and then take it to the smelter and sell it to them. He became familiar with all the factories in the whole downtown area. He knew who to see on what days in order to pick up their scrap metal. To them, he was doing them a favor by carting it away. But it was worth something to the smelters, so he always had a place to sell as much as he could collect. It got so that he needed a place to take it for the interim so that he could sort out the different types of metal and get a better price for the batches. So he rented a fenced lot. He would bring the truckloads of scrap there, sort iot into piles by metal type, and then take one load at a time of each metal type to the smelter. This little scrap business started to grow. Soon, he found he needed a second pickup truck and hired a few men to help. Then a third truck. Then more men. Well, he kept growing it and growing it. He totally immersed himself in it. The months went by. Then a couple of years went by as he continued to grow this business successfully.
He met a woman, and got married. He had no real worries about income because his scrap business was doing well, and of course he still had the jewelry back at the bank. But for now the business was giving him everything he needed. By this time, he had come to think of the jewelry as a backup plan, rather than his primary plan for success. He and his wife soon had children.
The children grew. The years started flying by.
His scrap metal business had now turned into quite a nice business worth several million dollars. It was very successful, but very time and energy consuming.
He realized that he no longer needed the nest-egg in the bank safety deposit box, so he just left it there for a rainy day. After all, he had seen rough times and he knew that rough times would come again someday and he wanted to be ready for them. He just knew that the good times wouldn’t last forever.
One day the economy might fail, and if it did, his business might easily fail, and if that happened, then he still had his fallback plan. His jewelry nest-egg would make sure that his family would always be well taken care of.
But the economy didn’t fail beyond the normal recessions that come every decade. The business remained intact – and thrived. The years went by. His daughters grew up and were married and had their own children. So far his business was still flourishing. He had never told his wife or family about the jewelry back in the bank safety deposit box. He kept it hidden as a dark secret about his youth. He had become an honest businessman. He didn’t have to lie or cheat or steal from anyone, and he had become a very upstanding member of the community. He was a wealthy man now. He employed a large number of people. Lots of people looked up to him. His wife and family looked up to him. He couldn’t let them know he had stolen that jewelry. That meant he was a thief. It was his dirty little secret from a distant past, and he couldn’t tell anyone about it. It was his secret shame. He had come to wish he had never broken into that house in Rosedale so many years ago when he was young.
Meanwhile, his business continued to grow.
Finally, one day, when he was 66 years old, he went to the doctor and the doctor told him he had a heart problem and he wasn’t going to live much more than a year.
He started thinking about what he wanted to do in that last year he had left. He had never really been an especially religious man, but, like a lot of people when they come to the last stages of their life, he found he had been thinking about God lately and he started to think about what was going to happen once he died. He realized that that jewelry that he had stolen as a youth and had kept as his dirty little secret for almost 50 years, was going to be a black mark on his record. It marred his soul, and that started to eat at him. He started to feel guilty. He thought about it every day, but couldn’t tell his family or anyone about it because he had to keep it secret.
Finally, he couldn’t stand the feelings of guilt any longer. He decided he wanted to make it right. He wanted to make reparations to the family that he had stolen from. He wanted to wipe the slate clean, and he wanted it clean before he died – and he was running out of time.
So he hired a private detective to look into the family of that home he had robbed so many years before. He remembered the address, and gave it to the detective. It turned out that the house was one of the ancestral family homes of the area, and that family had lived there for well over a hundred years. That family still lived there. Probably not the actual lady of the house at the time from 50 years before, but her children still lived there.
So he planned a visit to them.
But he thought it wouldn’t be proper reparation if he just simply handed back the jewelry and said "sorry". He had had the use of it for 50 years.
Although he never did sell any of it, he at least knew it was there and having that safety net there gave him the courage and confidence to try all those businesses until he found one that succeeded. When he really thought about it, he came to realize that that really was the core of his success.
Without the knowledge of having that to fall back on, he never would have tried the things he did to make a business successful. He never would have made the investments or taken the risks he needed to to survive. He owed that family more than just simply returning it.
So he sent the jewelry in to be appraised and he planned that he would give them interest on the value of the jewelry. He started to worry about that.
He did a few calculations about what the interest would add up to over 50 years. He started to think that perhaps if he just paid them DOUBLE what it was worth, in todays values – that would be enough of a sincere gesture to ease his guilt and hive him the open door to heave he was looking for.
The result came back from the appraiser.
The jewelry turned out to be costume jewelry. It was completely worthless.
When he had taken it, he was young, he didn’t know real jewelry from imitation jewelry. He just made an assumption that a wealthy woman living in a huge mansion like that would have real jewelery. All his life he lived thinking that he had a nest egg there. A safety net. He always felt that he could not fail and so he didn’t. He did make it work. No matter what came up, he could always just take it calmly know that nothing could ever really hurt him.
Now, looking back, he realized that It didn’t matter that the jewelry was fake. All that mattered in this case was that he THOUGHT it was real, and so he acted as though it were real, and that allowed him to do what was needed to be successful. His attitude made all the difference.

Singer or Model?

Recently, I have been discussing deals for my music with a record company. It looks like I might be writing some music for them.

The president of the record company, his main recording producer, and staff were in town here in Dallas to support an event with their biggest star.(showing her music video, set up a booth at a major event, selling a TV spot done on spec to a major corporate customer, etc.)
On Saturday night, I was out with them, and the recording producer (John) is a long-time Nashville pro who knows so many big names in the record business over the last few decades, you would be amazed. He is ‘old school’ music business. He said he came back to his recording studio and found someone there had brought in a pitch corrector (I think of it as a spell-checker for singing. LOL) and he asked “Who the he11 brought this in here?” And they said well, in Nashville nowadays they don’t consider it a real studio unless you have a pitch corrector, and besides, they had this one girl who really couldn’t hold a note that well, so they needed it for her. He said, “Well, if she can’t sing on key, then she needs to be selling shoes, not trying to be a singer for a living…” That’s the kind of guy John is. Funny. Old school. Great guitar player too. Cool guy, actually….

Well John mentioned something to me I thought I’d share and get your opinion and comments on.
He said he had put together a package for some major labels with a number of his artists, and it was in binder form with multiple pages, with pictures and CDs and bio’s etc. These were all real pros with lots of real talent and they were mostly all in the 30’s (or looked like it ;-)), and a few in the 20’s, except one. She was a teenager that her mother brought in. He said she was gorgeous, but she couldn’t sing. She would need a LOT of work over a lot of time to learn how. He had one black and white picture of her. No CD, no Bio. He stuck that picture in the back.

The major label people flipped through the whole book looking at all the artists, and asking no questions, finally, they get to her, and they stop and point to her picture. “What about her? She looks good.” John said, “Oh no. You don’t want her. She’s not ready yet. She’s going to need a LOT of work before she can really go out and sing.” They said. “We don’t care. That really doesn’t matter. Can she talk? Listen, we’ll give you a two year contract option on her.”

That was it. They were ready to sign her up as a singer/artist/performer right then and there without knowing her, meeting her, hearing her, or knowing anything about her, AND even knowing she CAN’T sing – just based on one single black and white photo. The others, with years and years of success and tons of talent, were not even considered because they simply “weren’t pretty enough”. Talent was completely a non-issue with them. They can dub a real singer in. She just has to learn how to talk to an audience, that’s all. It is virtually ALL about looks.

This is probably not too surprising to some of us. But the degree of it might be. It is SO blatant, and SO obvious. Maybe that is surprising? A little?

Weather Modification

In the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, for the last day or two I have been investigating some interesting facts about manmade weather. And in fact, something called ‘Weather Wars”. I have discovered some surprising, and amazing, and deeply disturbing things. At first I thought it might be crackpot conspiracy theorists, but no. It is apparently quite real. In fact, the “Office of Weather Modification” has been set up in the White House since 1952. Some parts of the technology started back in the late 1800’s by Nikola Tesla when he found ways to transmit high volumes of electricity through the ground and then through the air without using wires. There has apparently been a lot of very advanced work done in this field since 1972. In fact, the UN felt the need to create a UN resolution limiting the use of weather and climate control as a weapon in 1974. The US and Russia both signed it.

Admittedly, I don’t know a lot about this stuff yet, but what I have read so far is pretty disturbing. If you want to read up for yourself on this, just go to google.com, do a search on “Weather Control”, and then start clicking through the links that come up. You might find it as surprising as I did. Here is the bottom line:

Is weather control real?

Yes.

Do we have the technology to create a hurricane, or tornado, or earthquakes?

Yes.

Who has this technology?

The US and Russia. But Russia has been offering the technology for sale.

What specific technologies/techniques can be used to alter the weather and create storms?

Several.

High-energy lasers can be directed into the atmosphere which creates free oxygen (O2), this combined with hydrogen to create H2O – water. Space based lasers are even more effective, and can also create O3 (Ozone) in the process of creating water in the atmosphere. Water is the most essential element in weather. The amount of it at a given point in time at a given location can create wind shifts, rain, (obviously), snow, but a clever use of it can create a tornado, or, over water, a hurricane. Over warm ocean water, it creates a very powerful hurricane, and if created in the right position at the right time, prevailing winds will carry it where you want it to go.

But far more effective than that technology is the HAARP project in Alaska. This uses VLF (Very low frequency) energy pulses bounced off the ionosphere to create extreme weather conditions anywhere in the world they wish to direct it. The Earth has a fundamental resonant frequency of 7.83 hz. Anything that operates at that frequency risks disturbing all aspects of the earth. Weather, earthquakes, etc. It depends upon the amount of power produced. HAARP produces 1.7 gigawatts.

Here are a couple of interesting quotes about it I found on one of the websites I visited:

~~~
"The $30 million [Pentagon] project, euphemistically named HAARP (High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program), is made to beam more than 1.7 gigawatts (billion watts) of radiated power into the ionosphere -- the electrically charged layer above Earth's atmosphere. Put simply, the apparatus is a reversal of a radio telescope -- just transmitting instead of receiving. It will 'boil the upper atmosphere'. After [heating] and disturbing the ionosphere, the radiations will bounce back onto the earth in for form of long waves which penetrate our bodies, the ground and the oceans." ["Angels Don't Play This HAARP", page 8]
Let us allow Dr. Begich explain this concept. "... this invention provides the ability to put unprecedented amounts of power in the Earth's atmosphere at strategic locations and to maintain the power injection level, particularly if random pulsing is employed, in a manner far more precise and better controlled than heretofore accomplished by the prior art ...." [Page 28]
"... the goal is to learn how to manipulate the ionosphere on a more grand scale than the the Soviet Union could do with its similar facilities. HAARP would be the largest ionospheric heater in the world, located in a latitude most conducive to putting Eastlund's invention into practice." [Page 29] Furthermore, from this northern latitude, the energy could be aimed into the ionosphere so that it would bounce back down to the earth so it would come down wherever the scientists wanted it to come down. The secret was to learn how and where to aim it to hit the earth where they wanted it to hit, creating the type of disaster or weather they desired.
In NEWS1198, "U.N. Treaty Proves Weather Control Is Real", we report news articles that Malaysia actually contracted with a Russian Weather Modification company to create a hurricane that would be directed close enough to clear the smoke and smog from Malaysia's cities without actually coming on to land to create devastation. This Russian company delivered, and Malaysia had clear skies.
Our information also tells us that, not only can hurricanes be created, they can be dismantled should scientists so desire. And, they certainly can be driven on the ocean much like we drive our cars on roadways. Therefore, one has to ask why American scientists have allowed unprecedented hurricanes, like Andrew, to ever come on shore. Why are American scientists allowing extensive damage and lives lost to recent unprecedented storms, since they have the capability to keep these storms away from us?
HAARP can create nuclear-sized explosions without radiation! [Page 38, 62]. This process is protected by patent 4,873,928.
The greatest concern of New Age scientist Nick Begich, in his book, "Angels Don't Play This HAARP", is that scientists and the military are so very arrogant in their ignorant, reckless use of focused energy into the ionosphere. Military scientists talk about "kicking this thing in high gear to see what would happen"! This attitude is complete arrogance. What if they set off an unintended reaction in the atmosphere that cannot be controlled or stopped?”
~~~

Well, if a country can deliver nuclear-like explosions anywhere in the world they wish, without using ICBM missiles and other nuclear delivery systems, then I suppose that makes traditional nuclear weapons arsenals obsolete for warfare purposes, and mostly only good for political posturing and negotiations. That would explain why both Russia and the US were willing to agree to disarmaments, and reductions in their nuclear proliferation. I think maybe that was the first time in human history that countries voluntarily chose to disarm themselves and reduce their ability to conduct war. Given the nature of mankind and his history, it would make much more sense if they had a better card up their sleeves.

Judging by the apparent irresponsible arrogance of the people in charge of it as suggested by Begich, I wonder who should be in charge of decision-making for this technology. Once a technology is invented, it cannot be ‘un-invented’. It is now there, and some people will try to use it. Most will try to use it to their personal advantage and to support their agendas. Always, it seems that those that want to act in the interest of all mankind lack the same level of energy and determination of those acting in self interest, and so the people that push their way to the top into positions of power and authority rarely act responsibly or altruistically, but rather they act to gain power and wealth to themselves.

Having said that, if we follow the line of reasoning logically, if we accept that current technology allows us to create a hurricane, then we have to ask ourselves who might have started a hurricane like Katrina that specifically destroyed the area where most of our oil refineries are? In whose interest does this serve? Who benefits from this?

Another interesting question: Since we apparently not only have the ability to create a hurricane, and steer it, and even stop it – why did we choose not to stop Katrina from doing the damage it did? Is the information incorrect? Can we start them, but not stop them? Or is there some other reason that Katrina served the purposes of some people? I honestly don’t know. I’m wondering myself.

Here is a chronology of the technological advances that contributed to weather control. The comments are not mine but come from that website that I found. I have to admit – as much as I would like to go back to thinking that the weather is not controllable, It’s hard to ignore this much information on the subject.

1900: "Tesla applies for patent on a device to 'Transmit Electrical Energy Through the Natural Mediums." In 1905, the U.S. Patent Office issue Patent #787,412 for this purpose. I bet it is news to everyone that the technology to transmit electrical power without wires exists, and exists so that the generation and transmission of electricity can be both bountiful and FREE! Of course, a lot of dollars of sales and profit would immediately vanish, so Tesla's discovery was never made public.

1924: "Confirmation that radio waves bounce off 'ionosphere 1' (an electrically charged layer starting at an altitude of 50 kilometers)."

1938: "Scientist proposes to light up night sky by electron gyrotron heating from a powerful transmitter." The fact that untold numbers of powerful electron heaters are pouring tens of millions of watts of electricity at Extremely Low Frequencies to effect this Weather Warfare is the major reason we are experiencing Global Warming! This warming has nothing to do with any Industrial pollutants or emssions, and certainly not from cow flatulance, as New Age extremists have claimed. New World Order planners are able to make dire predictions and then technologically deliver them!

1940: "Tesla announces 'death ray' invention." Our military evidently has the capability to create a defense shield over our continent by aiming these electron heaters correctly.

1945: "Atomic bomb tests begin -- 40,000 electromagnetic pulses to follow."

1952: "W.O. Schumman identifies 7.83 Hertz the resonant frequency of the Earth".

1958: "Van Allen radiation belts discovered (zones of charged particles trapped in earth's magnetic field) 2,000+ miles up. Violently disrupted in the same year."

1958: "Project Argus, U.S. Navy explodes three nuclear bombs inside Van Allen belt."

1958: "White House advisor on weather modification says Defense Department studying ways to manipulate charges of 'earth and sky, and so affect the weather'." Wow! Did you know that such a department as "Weather Modification" existed in the White House way back in 1952? The mere existence of such an office strongly implies the technology to modify and control the weather existed.

1960: "Series of weather disasters begin."

1961: "Scientists propose artificial ion cloud experiments. In 1960's the dumping of chemicals (barium powder, etc.) from satellites and rockets began."

1961-62: "U.S.S.R. and U.S.A. create many electromagnetic pulses (EMPs) in the atmosphere. 300 megatons of nuclear devices deplete ozone layer by about 4%." Hmm, ozone layer depletion was intentionally created by both Russian and American governments by nuclear detonations? They not only knew about it, they measured the extent of the depletion and the time it lasted. Therefore, do you think it just might be possible that, once again, we have the situation where a dire prediction is made, with the knowledge that their scientists can actually make it happen?!

1962: "Launch of Canadian satellites and start of stimulating plasma resonances by antennas within the space plasma."

1966: "Gordon J.F. MacDonald publishes military ideas on environmental engineering."

1960's: In Wisconsin, U.S. Navy Project Sanguine lays extremely low frequency (ELF) antennae." We are told that the Navy needed this ELF capability to communicate with their submarines in a way that would be secure from enemy attack, a claim with which we do not argue. However, is it also possible that this ELF antennae may serve a dual purpose, of also helping to control the weather?

1968: "Moscow scientists tell the West that they have pinpointed which pulsed magnetic field frequencies help mental and physiological functions and which frequencies do harm." The very idea that a wicked totalitarian government serving Antichrist could know how to manipulate thought processes by the use of electromagmetic pusles is one of the most frightening thoughts imaginable! This little incident also shows the unusual cooperation between Russia and America at the height of the Cold War! Such cooperation constitutes proof of our claim that Russia has cooperated with the Western Powers since the beginning, in 1917, to stage the mock battle of Thesis battling Antithesis to produce the Synthesis system of Antichrist called the New World Order.

1972: "First reports on 'ionospheric heater' experiments with high frequency radio waves at Arecibo [Alaska]. A 100 megawatt heater in Norway built later in the decade can change the conductivity of the auroral ionosphere." Now, you are getting close to being able to control the weather. When you can manipulate the conductivity of the auroal ionosphere, where weather systems operate and originate, you are close to controlling the weather. Note the date here, at which time this technology was realized: 1972.

1973: "Documentation that the launch of Skylab 'halved the total electron content of the ionosphere for three hours' (by rocket exhaust gases)."

1974: "United Nations General Assembly bans environmental warfare." We reported on this terrible treaty in NEWS1196, "U.N. Treaty Proves Weather Control Is Real". You do not need a treaty banning Weather Warfare unless such technology already exists and has been proven effective. This means that this Weather Warfare technology has been fine tuned for 24 years.

1974: "High frequency experiments at Plattsville, Colorado Arecibo, Puerto Rico, and in Armidale, New South Wales. These experiments heated the 'bottom side of the ionosphere."

1974: "Experiments -- airglow brightened by hitting oxygen atoms in ionosphere with accelerated electrons."

1975: "Stanford professor Robert Helliwell reports that very low frequency (VLF) from power lines is altering the ionosphere." I remember this report well, as I scoffed at the idea that power lines could have that kind of effect on this huge earth. I never thought of the fact that the reason they could have this kind of effect is that they are just the right kind of frequency to affect the earth.

1975: "U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson forces the Navy to release research showing that extremely low frequency (ELF) transmissions can altar human blood chemistry." Once again, this technology begins to hit very close to home, does it not? When an enemy can altar my blood chemistry by aiming ELF transmissions at me, I can be destroyed with no knowledge of what is happening to me, or who is doing such lethal damage. Can you also sense the possibilty of control of an entire population, without the people ever being aware they are being manipulated?!

1975: "U.S. Senator Pell, Senate Subcommitted, urges that weather and climate modification work should be overseen by a civilian agency answerable to the U.S. Congress. Didn't happen." In NEWS1196, we report that Senator Pell urged the United States to sign this United Nations treaty banning Weather Warfare. It sounds like Pell was very concerned about the use and misuse of this technology, even though he is fully aware of the New World Order Plan and has acted to support it for many years.

1975: "Soviets begin pulsing 'Woodpecker' extremely low frequency (ELF) waves at key brainwave rhythms. Eugene, Oregon, was one of the locations where Woodpecker was aimed, and where people were particularly affected." Once, again, I am extremely agitated to discover that an enemy can destroy me either biologically or mentally from a distance, without me being aware of it.

1976: "Drs. Susan Bawin and W. Ross Adey show that nerve cells are affected by ELF fields."

1979: "Launch of NASA's third High-Energy Astrophysical Observatory causes large scale, artificially induced depletion in the ionosphere. The plasma hole was caused by 'rapid chemical processes' between rocket exhaust and the ozone layer. The ionosphere was significantly depleted over a horizontal distance of 300 km for some hours."

1985: "Bernard J. Eastlund applies for patent 'Method and Apparatus for Altering a Region in the Earth's Atmosphere, Ionosphere and/or Magnetosphere'. (First of three Eastlund patents assigned to ARCO Power Technologies, Inc.)"

1986: "U.S. Navy Project Henhouse duplicates the Delgado (Madrid) experiment -- very low level, very low frequency pulsed magnetic fields harm chick embryos."

1980's: "In the latter part of the decade, the U.S. begins the network of Ground Wave Emergency Network (GWEN) towers, each to generate Very Low Frequency (VLF) waves ..." IN NEWS1196, we reported that the GWEN towers created a high level electromagnetic dam in the atmosphere in the American Midwest that created the rain for 40 days and nights in 1993. GWEN towers were located right where the rain came down in such a Biblical type deluge. Furthermore, we showed a map of the United States where you could see the GWEN towers and where they were located. We found it extremely interesting that these towers were also located along the San Andreas fault in Califormai and Nevada, where all these earthquakes of the past decade have been occurring!

1987-1992: "Other ARCO Power Technologies Incorporated (APTI) scientists build on Eastlund patents for development of new weapon capabilities."

1994: "Military contractor E-systems buys APTI, holder of Eastlund patents and contract to build the biggest ionospheric heater in the world, the High-frequency Active Auroral Research Project (HAARP). Even though construction of HAARP towers in Alaska began before this date, this was the time the decision was made to make it as large as it is now today, over 40 acres of ELF towers.

1994: "Congress freezes the funding on HAARP until planners increase the emphasis on earth penetrating tomography uses, for nuclear counterproliferation efforts." Once again, we have to wonder if this technology might be used to create earthquakes, as well as monitor compliance with nuclear test ban treaties.

1995: "Congress budgets $10 million for 1996, under "nuclear counterproliferation' efforts for HAARP project." At least now we know that the U.S. Government is in firm control of HAARP, the same government driving us full speed into the global government of Antichrist, known as the New World Order.

1994-6: "Testing of first stage of HAARP equipment continues ..."

1996: HAARP planners to test the earth penetrating tomography applications by modulating the electroject at ELF frequencies." Let's see, were there any severe or unusual earthquakes, or series of earthquakes, in 1996? We shall study this and get back to you.

1998: "Projected date for fully operating HAARP system." We have had the most unusual severe weather in 1997 and 1998. It is no coincidence that the onset of this unprecedented weather coincided with the completion of the HAARP system. Now, scientists can create and control all types of weather, especially disasters.
